I find myself wondering about inflatable boats, it might seem a bit strange. I think the thought process came about because we were at a pool party yesterday and they had lots of inflatable devices in the pool for the children to play in.

It’s very relaxing lying on something like that and floating with the bobbing of the waves. I think it might be a good visualization for some people during hypnosis. Floating and bobbing, breathing in and breathing out, letting go of the tension. It wouldn’t work if people were afraid of the water, but for people like me it might be a good one.

With others I’ve used just experiencing a warming sensation, or imagining being massaged with lotion, or walking through a beautiful garden or along the beach. It’s all in what the client finds relaxing, and that’s what the pre-interview is for.

I’m getting questions about this, and realized it’s one of the things I haven’t posted about but keeping meaning to.

As it stands at the moment I have four variable fees for hypnotherapy.

Clinical Hypnosis:
This means smoking cessation, habit control, diet help, exercise motivation, self-confidence boost, general relaxation, help sleeping.

Initial session: $45
Follow-up session: $35

Regression/Past Life Regression:
This is hypnotherapy to help you recover memories from childhood, past lives, pre-natal times and things like that.

Initial session: $60
Follow up session: $50

Scripts on CD:
Prep work, booster work and things like that on CD for you to listen to at your convenience.

$15-25 depending on the amount and type of scripts needed.

Why are the initial sessions more expensive?
Initial sessions take longer because they involve an extensive pre-interview and paperwork to make sure this is the right thing for you, how you want to do it, answer any questions that you may have, find out about where we’re looking to go with this to make sure that we can understand and work together properly and be on the same page. I don’t want to just dive on in based on what you told me over the phone or via email because there may be things that I don’t know and need to know, like if you’ve done hypnosis before, if you have any health conditions which may cause an issue. This is not because hypnotherapy is a risky thing, but if you’re diabetic and didn’t eat yet during the day that could be an issue for you, or something else like that. I also want to make sure that I’m using visualization techniques that you’re comfortable with, it would not be good if you’re afraid of water and I’m using a visualization that takes you out on a boat in a lake, while that’s relaxing for me, it wouldn’t be for you.

Follow-up sessions don’t require as much pre-interview, just a brief catch-up and then we can go right on into the hypnosis portion of things.

So why is past life regression more expensive?
Past life regression sessions involve a lot more interaction between you and me because they’re a lot of question and answer. They’re going to be a lot longer also even without the pre-interview, so that’s why they’re more expensive. A clinical hypnosis session tends to average about 30-45 minutes an hour at most, whereas a past life regression session is an hour minimum.

Can you tape my sessions?
If you want a copy of your session I can definitely record something for you. My recording equipment is my computer, so it would be recorded to .mp3 and then burned to CD for you to listen to. If you can’t use a CD or would just like to download the .mp3 to your .mp3 player I can accommodate that as well, and it’ll be cheaper for you because I won’t have to use a CD.

One of the most beneficial exercises I’ve come across in self-hypnosis, is finding a place in your mind where everything is calm and serene and you can be tranquil and at peace without having to travel to the Outer Banks or something like that.

The exercise is quite simple and can be beneficial for everyone because it allows you to refresh in a momentary escape and come back at things with a better attitude.

It’s just as simple as spending a few minutes concentrating on your breathing, breathing slowly in and out, in through your mouth and out through your nose, each breath takes you closer to a place where you feel calm and comfortable and relaxed, where you can let go of the stresses that have been eating away at you and keep yourself in a good mindset.

Often times people will ask me how I know about past lives and can give bits and pieces about so many I’ve had. It’s difficult to explain why that is. I could cop out and say that I’m just lucky. It’s not always been so easy.

I’ve felt that I’ve had other lives since I was very young and first read in my elementary school classes about Siddharta Gautama (better know as the Buddha) reincarnating. I thought it would be really interesting, but I wasn’t sure how I could find out for sure if I had or not. It took until I was in high school for me to really start to be able to research things like that, thanks to a few trips to Cassadega and the gathering of some books I learned about different people’s experiences and methodology.

There’s really no standard 100% guaranteed way to find out about your past lives. It’s not like you can just pack up some travel supplies and go on a trip and find something out, although some times people do start experiencing memories of past lives after something they see on a trip jogs their brain in a certain way.

For me the initial discovery was made during a guided meditation experiment with a friend of mine, and then other things fell into place; but it was this intense curiosity and the various experiments over the years that led me to take past life regression training. Although I made sure to learn the basics of hypnosis first. You can’t walk before you can crawl, and I wanted to make sure that I was doing things right and not going to cause problems more than I would solve.

For a lot of people past life regression can answer questions that have been plaguing them throughout this life. They might have an unexplained fear that makes no sense based on things which have happened to them this time around, and in some cases health problems can be exacerbated by residual energy from a past life.

After talking a little bit last week about hypnosis’ uses in drug rehab, I thought I would talk a little bit more about hypnosis and cover some of the misconceptions I hear the most.

1. Hypnosis is “sleep”.
No. The hypnotic state of mind is different to the one that the body goes into when it’s asleep. They do both deal with the subconscious mind, but while you’re in the hypnotic state you remain in the same state of brain wave activity, and the hypnotist speaks directly to your subconscious mind, helping it train a lot faster than under normal circumstances.

2. People can die because of hypnosis.
If someone’s going to die because it’s their time they’re going to die whether they’re being hypnotized or not, but hypnosis itself is not dangerous, and it’s not harmful to your body. Clinical Hypnosis is designed to be nothing but helpful to you. You and the hypnotist working together to help you find the ways to train yourself out of behaviors that have been reducing your quality of life such as smoking, overeating, lack of motivation towards exercise, nail biting, self confidence issues.

3. People have died after being hypnotized.
I suppose that could be true. In a link with the previous post, I’m sure there are people who have died after they’ve been hypnotized. By that case my mother-in-law would qualify, but the link between the two was not the case. She had cancer. The hypnosis had nothing to do with it. In this case people are usually speaking of people being hypnotized to jump off buildings or walk in to oncoming traffic. Successful hypnosis requires that the hypnotizee (to make up a word) is willing to accept the suggestions and pointers being offered by the hypnotist. If something is suggested that is counter to someone’s self-preservation instincts or normal behavior they will not do it.

I’ll leave it for now. II need to browse some of my IM logs so that I can come up with some more.

One thing I hadn’t even thought of when I first went to my hypnotherapy courses was that techniques could be used to help those going through or fresh out of drug rehabilitation programs so that they could retrain themselves and potentially be stronger in the face of trials and temptations to slide back off the wagon.

The hypnotherapy instructor spoke of different rules that he laid down for reformed addicts were different than those he laid down for others that came for his sessions though. He said that he generally charged those that were still in treatment a good 25% more than others simply because the potential for bailing out and not showing up to appointments was a lot higher.

I can’t speak from personal experience on that one. I have known addicts and I know that they themselves are unreliable but I have yet to have the opportunity to work with anyone in treatment, at the minute with the way that my “office” situation works that’s not something I’m secure enough to do even with a husband in law enforcement, perhaps at some point in the future I’ll be able to.

I was presented with an interesting theory about physical ailments being caused by emotional issues the other night and I think that it makes a lot of sense.

I was talking with a friend about a long lasting bout of tonsillitis that’s been affecting a member of my family and she suggested that it was being affected by unsaid words regarding a conflict that had been going on for a while, and I realized that the tonsillitis started right around the time the conflict first started and suddenly things clicked. We’re working on resolving the unsaid words issue and we’ll see how it helps the person’s health.

It’s strange to me that I wouldn’t have thought of things like this, because when I was trying to find ways to treat my fibromyalgia I decided to go the esoteric route after months of treating it with various medications didn’t work and resolving some things hypnotically did help me to heal up my symptoms for over a year.

I should note though that while I talk about resolving health issues with esoteric means this is only after going for more modern means first and with the blessing of my primary care provider.

I hear a lot that people aren’t able to be hypnotized. They’ve been told that they can’t be, or they feel that they can’t because they’ve perhaps been present at a stage hypnosis show and not “gone under” various reasons. It’s my belief that whether you’re commodity brokers or a librarian, an astronaut or a housewife you can be hypnotized. Some people are more hypnotically susceptible than others, that’s true, but everyone can be hypnotized under the right circumstances and with the right hypnotist.

In some cases the person may not have been hypnotized because they weren’t mentally ready, or they didn’t trust their circumstances or the hypnotist that they were with, or the right induction techniques weren’t used by the hypnotist for the personality type they have. But anyone can be hypnotized. Some people will go more deeply into the hypnotic state than others the first time they’re run through the scripts, but the more you work with hypnosis the easier it is for you to achieve the hypnotic state.

There are many different reasons that you might come to someone for clinical hypnosis. You might not realize it but you can come to a hypnotist as part of a drug rehabilitation program, to stick with a diet and exercise program, to help with your smoking cessation.

The most important thing with hypnosis is that you are ready for the changes that you want to affect. The hypnotist is going to help you facilitate those changes as long as you’re willing, because you’re only going to be able to accept the suggestions to change if you’re ready. Other wise there’s no point you’re just wasting your time and your hypnotherapist’s time as well.

So many times I get questions about this possibility. People asking me to hypnotize them over IM, and people telling me that, “So-n-so who has hypnotherapy in their profile told me that they hypnotized me over IM,” it makes me cringe.

While I must admit I am curious to experiment with the idea of hypnosis over the internet I would have to do it in more controlled circumstances than I’m able to do/trust with XRandomPerson who IMs me out of the blue. I’m more likely to buy one of those raymond weil watches than accept that proposition.

I’m not adverse to giving a person a CD of scripts and things to listen to as prep to a session or as supplement to a session, but hypnotizing via text? I just don’t see it, as I’ve said many times before. It’s a problematic idea given the fact that subliminal messages have been disproven and also the fact that if you’re reading text you’re using too much of your brain to properly accept being hypnotized. I wish there weren’t so many fraudulent people or perverts interested in this topic it would make things a lot easier. I still remember with distaste the day that someone engaged me in conversation about this topic and despite my having typed quite strongly and at length that I wasn’t interested in trying this with them or doing that to them the next day they IMd me and after two lines of conversation proceeded to try and hypnotize me by typing to me about tranquil scenes and relaxation. They were very annoyed when I told them flatly that I refused this and they should go away before I flagged them to their ISP. I told them, “How do you think I feel being disrespected? That’s pretty annoying too,” anyway, enough of my talk about this. It tends to border on ranting too often.
